There is some healthy competition coming in for the Nokia N91 phone which boasts of a 4GB of memory space. The N91 was the first phone to deliver that but is now successfully followed by the Sony Ericsson W950i which also comes with 4GB of flash memory. The phone adds a touch screen TFT display which definitely does enough to out do the N91 or does it? The N91 comes with a 2 Megapixel camera which the SE phone does not have.

The Sony Ericsson W950 is very similar to the M600 in terms of looks and dimensions. The main difference is noticeably the missing QWERTY keypad and the presence of high storage capacity. The phone does not come with a Camera so if you are one of those people looking for an ‘All in one’ package then you probably need to look away. Other important features like 3G, Bluetooth and FM Radio come with the phone.

Would you go for the N91 or the W950 is totally your choice. If you fancy a touch screen and a better looking phone you can go with the Sony Ericsson, but if you want a couple of more features like Camera and Wi-Fi then N91 would be a better choice.

SLVR Rip-off ?

December 24th, 2006 Rush Posted in Reviews, i-mate No Comments »

A Moto SLVR rip-off is doing the rounds in the i-mate gallery these days with the i-mate SPL which looks like the SLVR’s twin brother. The i-mate SPL has the same design and if seen from far it you can easily mistake it for a Motorola. All things said and done, this phone is packed with features as are all i-mate phones and expensive too!

The i-mate SPL is powered by a OMAP730 200 Mhz processor along with 64mb RAM and 128mb ROM. The SPL also has a very nice 2 megapixel camera, but sadly does not have flash.

The battery of the SPL is very poor at only 3 hours talktime and only 150 hours standby. Another downside for this phone is absence of data connectivity technologies like 3G or even EDGE for that matter. You will have to work your way with the primitive GPRS on this handset to use along with the PocketIE version of the HTML browser. The SPL is available in black only, but there are plans to release a silver variant.

The phone comes with a miniSD card slot, Bluetooth support along with a miniUSB port.

Review: Sony Ericsson M600

The Sony Ericsson M600 is a Tri band GSM phone along with UMTS support. The phone weighs about 110 grams and measures close to 107 x 57 x 15 mm. The M600 has a 256k color TFT screen which measures 39 x 53mm with a 240 x 320 pixel display resolution.

There are a couple of really good things we like about the phone. One of them is the QWERTY keypad which can be used along with the touch screen for doing your work faster. We have previously seen phones like P8xx/P9xx series phones from Sony Ericsson in which you can use only one feature at a time. This one will let you combine both and will certainly deliver a blackberry experience. The SE M600 also comes with a rock solid Symbian OS v9.1 and has 3G support along with HSCD and GPRS.

The battery life is pretty good on this phone provided you are using it with a GSM network. The talk time goes really low if a UMTS network is used, and you will barely be able to sneak in 2-3 hours talk time. The M600 does not have a camera, which makes this phone mainly for business users and people who don’t use the camera much and are prepared to carry their cybershot along with them.
